Providing care and support for local patients and their families for over 30 years
It was in September 1984 that the first hospice nurse was appointed and began providing care to people across North Devon. Now, over 30 years on, North Devon Hospice has been able to continue providing even more care thanks to the amazing support of the local community. From having just one nurse we now have a team of specialists who offer a wide range of services. Every year we care for thousands of local people, the majority of which who are cared for where it means the most, in their own home.
We offer care and support to those people who are affected by a life-limiting illness. We believe in being there for all the family.
Although the majority of our care and support is provided in peoples own home, we also offer a range of care and support from our two sites, Deer Park, our main site in Barnstaple and from The Long House, our outreach centre in Holsworthy.
Patients are at the heart of everything we do. The quality of their personal and medical experience is of key importance to us. Our mission is to promote the relief of symptoms amongst people with life-limiting illnesses. We do this through:
Specialist palliative care for patients with an advanced, progressive illness and the adults and children who are close to the patient
Personal care to patients at the end-of-life and support to their families at home and in other settings
Supportive care to patients who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and the adults and children who are close to the patient
Advice, support and education provision to patients, families, communities, organisations, and healthcare professionals who are responding to life-limiting illness, death and loss
We believe in
- Being there for all the family
- Recognising and treating each person as an individual
- The caring support that is provided
- The sense of safety that closeness to the hospice brings
- The expertise of our professional staff

Our clinical teams work closely with:
- GP Practices and District Nurses
- Nursing Homes and Residential Homes
- Hospitals and Community Hospitals
- Domiciliary Care Agencies
