Star Trek
Star Trek is a firm favourite with walkers from North Devon and much further afield. It has been running since 1992 and has raised over £500,000 for local charities (including North Devon Hospice) since the first year when just over 200 walkers take to the moor at night.
Now, well over 500 people enter in teams of 4-6 to take on the course which changes every year but is always between 14 and 16 miles long. The event is an cerebral challenge as well as an orienteering one. Clues and questions need to be answered on the way round, so it is not just a case of who can complete the course in the quickest time.
The route takes a figure of 8 shape with the start and finish point located in the centre of the 8. Walkers also pass through this point halfway through so they can rest if needed and be fed and watered.
Star Trek is wonderfully organised every year by Ilfracombe Rotary Club and is always a memorable night whatever the weather. So if you think you could navigate your way around Exmoor in the dark, why not get involved?
