Catering Volunteer

The Terrace Café at Deer Park, Barnstaple is set in beautiful grounds with stunning views of the gardens and the Devon countryside beyond and our dedicated catering team are looking to recruit volunteers to support them both in the kitchen and front of house.

This is a varied role requiring you to be flexible and to be able to adapt to the needs on the day. You may be assisting our chefs with food preparation for the day’s menu or welcoming our visitors to the Café. You may be taking food orders and operating the electronic till system ensuring payment for food and drinks are processed as efficiently as possible and all food orders are passed to the kitchen staff in a timely manner. Once cooked, delivering meals to the correct table and ensuring our visitors have everything they need to enjoy their meal. You will be required to operate the commercial dishwasher, alongside other staff, and to help to keep the kitchen & the Terrace Café clean and tidy. These are vital for the smooth running of the Café. You may be required to deliver meals to our Bedded Unit, ensuring the nursing staff are aware meals are ready so our patients can enjoy their meals in a timely manner.

We would ask you to wear black trousers or black skirt with a white shirt and sensible shoes. A suitable hospice top will be supplied once you have completed your initial induction period. For health & safety reasons we request hair is tied back and only a limited amount jewellery is to be worn. For further details please contact the Volunteer Office.

Full training will be given prior to commencing your role and you will benefit by meeting new people & learning new skills. You’ll be supporting your own health & wellbeing and you’ll be working alongside our fantastic catering team as well as knowing you are directly supporting the patients and their families, we are privileged to support at North Devon Hospice.
