Devon-inspired cook book raises funds for the hospice

Devon-inspired cook book raises funds for the hospice

Mrs Slocombe's 'Bull at a Gate Cookery' is packed with humour, nostalgia, beer, wine and creativity

An award-winning cookery book from former beef farmer Tracey Slocombe is now on sale, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to North Devon Hospice.

Writing under the author's name of 'Mrs Slocombe' the book is called 'Bull at a Gate Cookery' and it offers much more than just recipes. Mrs Slocombe encourages the reader to ‘love where you live’ and has created a few delicious dishes inspired by her love of North Devon.

Mrs Slocombe says: "It's packed full of recipes, humour, nostalgia, wine, beer and creativity. Some days we can spend too much time rushing about and not enough time doing the things which are important, like preparing home-cooked food from scratch and rounding up the kids to get involved too, which not only lightens the load but also teaches them important life skills at the same time.

She added, " I love to raise awareness and funds for charitable concerns, so I'm delighted that North Devon Hospice will benefit from sales of the book. It’s great to get creative in the kitchen and I would be thrilled to see any readers creations too, so please do share any with my Facebook page, Mrs Slocombe."

Jess Burford Redgrove, from North Devon Hospice, said: This looks like a cracking book and with dishes on offer to commemorate Devon, it is very relevant to all of us living here. We're very grateful to Mrs Slocombe for choosing to support the work of the hospice. Every purchase of the book bought with the code 'NDH' will raise funds for the cause, and will help provide vital care to local people who are facing an incurable illness."
