Enjoy the grounds, then a cream tea or carvery lunch
North Devon Hospice will open their gardens to the public on Sunday 3rd June, allowing the public to discover for themselves why so many patients and families enjoy the tranquillity and serenity of these beautiful grounds.
It will be completely free to enter and there will also be carvery lunches and cream teas to enjoy once visitors have explored the 5-acre gardens.
Donna Warlow, Head of Facilities at North Devon Hospice, said that this was an ideal opportunity for a free family day out. “Here at the hospice we’ve created a gorgeous environment for our patients and families to enjoy. It is our pleasure to share this with the whole North Devon community and invite you all to come and experience our beautiful gardens completely free of charge. It’s a great place for families to come and visit because we have big open lawns for kids to run about on, plus lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. Our paths are also wide, smooth and wheelchair-friendly, so people of all abilities will be able to enjoy the day with us.”
The gardens at North Devon Hospice include herbaceous borders, two large ponds, a rose garden, cherry orchard and a kitchen garden. Produce grown at the hospice will be served as part of the carvery lunches. Donna added, “It’s worth coming for the food alone! Our kitchen team are laying on a fantastic spread with carvery lunches, cream teas and much more. These will be served on our terrace which overlooks the gardens, so you can happily spend an afternoon here in beautiful surroundings.”
The local charity are opening their gardens again this year to encourage more of the community to visit the hospice and get a real sense of what it is like. “I think a lot of people can be afraid of the word ‘hospice.’” said Donna. “They might imagine somewhere cold and clinical, but nothing could be further from the truth. Every time we hold an open garden event, it is a pleasure to see people’s preconceptions being broken down, as they discover what a warm, welcoming and peaceful environment we’ve created for our patients and families. I hope we see lots of people come and visit on Sunday 3rd June.”
Admission to North Devon Hospice’s open garden event is completely free. It will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 3rd June. Ample parking is on site and refreshments will be served throughout. For more information call 01271 344248 or email email@example.com.
