New Ilfracombe shop officially opened

New Ilfracombe shop officially opened

Hospice nurse, Steve Burton, does the honour of cutting the cake

North Devon Hospice has officially opened its new shop on Ilfracombe High Street. The ribbon was cut by Steve Burton, a hospice Clinical Nurse Specialist who cares for patients and families in the Ilfracombe area.

The new premises are a significant upgrade on the hospice’s previous shop in Ilfracombe, and offer more space for new and pre-loved items.

Shop Manager, Sue Quinlan, said the store was already popular with locals and tourists alike. “People love how bright and airy the new place is,” she said. “They’re finding lots of surprises that they might not have expected to have found, and it is a pleasure to see old and new customers having such a positive reaction. It’s a great location, opposite Costa on the High Street, and when people come in it will really challenge their idea of what a charity shop is like.”

Steve Burton, a hospice Clinical Nurse Specialist who covers the Ilfracombe area, cut the ribbon to officially open the new shop. Steve visits people in their own homes, providing care and support to those who are affected by a life-limiting illness. “Ilfracombe and the surrounding area are close to my heart because I’ve helped care for so many patients here down the years. So it is a pleasure to help open the new hospice shop here today.” he said. “The care we provide as a hospice is entirely reliant on the generosity of the community, and the funds raised from this new shop will directly benefit local people on your doorstep in Ilfracombe. So I’d encourage anyone to come and see what’s in store, because not only could you pick up a wonderful bargain, your support will also help us care for those in the area affected by a life-limiting illness.”

North Devon Hospice are now seeking more volunteers to come and help run the new Ilfracombe shop. Sue Quinlan said, “It is very fitting that we officially opened this store during National Volunteers Week, because volunteers truly are the life-blood of the hospice. They help out in every part of the charity and nowhere is their input more prominent than in our shops. We are looking for more volunteers to join our friendly team, and it really is a rewarding thing to do. This is a wonderful environment to work in, and no matter how much time you can give, all new volunteers will be very welcome. Please pop in to the shop or call us to find out more.”

North Devon Hospice’s new Ilfracombe shop is on the High Street and opens Monday to Saturday from 9.00am until 4.00pm. To find out more about volunteering, please pop in or call the shop on 01271 867161.
