Group support, events and workshops

Group support, events & workshops

Offering a range of support that suits your needs

During the coronavirus pandemic, we are still caring but we have had to put face-to-face sessions on hold for your own wellbeing. You are able to access a range of emotional support with the counselling team via telephone or Zoom calls. We have been running Patients Group, Creative Workshops and Mindfulness & Meditation sessions very successfully in this way.

Throughout the year, the hospice's Supportive Care team organises various support groups, workshops, activities and information sessions that help people through these difficult times. These are aimed at patients, family members and often both together. There is practical help and emotional support, as well as more informal sessions which allow people to enjoy each other's company, giving a sense of belonging and helping them to feel that they are not alone. Many of our sessions have been offered in response to specific requests, so we can be flexible in how we support you.

By providing a wide range of different sessions, each person can select what is most likely to meet their individual needs. These sessions have included:

Patients Group - A facilitated group session where patients can come together to share experiences, feelings and concerns.

Wellbeing days - Relaxing days where we offer anything from hairdressing and manicures to massage or even a wet shave for gents with hot towels and everything! Some well-deserved 'me' time.
Creative workshops - In the past we have run sessions creating memory boxes, trying out photography, making worry dolls with children and much more.

Fatigue & breathlessness sessions - Giving advice and techniques to help people cope with common symptoms of a life-limiting illness.

Gentle exercise - Enjoying a sense of wellbeing through gentle exercise such as yoga or pilates.

Singing workshops - A great way of expressing yourself and finding joy, whether you consider yourself a singer or not!

Supporting young people - Talking about how best to support young people in the family, and what to say to them at this time.

Planning funerals - Offering practical advice on planning a funeral that is personal and meaningful for you and your family.
