Ever dreamt of trekking to Machu Picchu? Conquering the Great Wall of China? Rafting down the Zambezi River or scaling the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro?

Taking on an overseas challenge in aid of North Devon Hospice is the perfect way to achieve a lifetime dream, while also making a real difference to people back home.

There are numerous options for your challenge of a lifetime, in a range of different climates, over several days or several weeks, and offering differing levels of exertion. If you have a specific challenge in mind, and would like to do it in aid of North Devon Hospice, please contact us and we can make that happen. If you'd like to chat to our overseas challenge expert for some ideas about what opportunities are out there, we can arrange that too.

Doing this will be life-changing, in more ways than one. It will change your life, in that the way you look at the world will never be the same again. You will experience sights and sounds that very few others do, while exploring a foreign landscape that will seem a world away from the UK and will give you a new perspective. It will also be life-changing for those who need the care and support of North Devon Hospice. Our doctors, nurses, counsellors and therapists support people facing the impact of cancer, and other life-limiting illnesses. We do this completely free of charge, but only thanks to amazing people doing extraordinary things like this. Your efforts and fundraising will help change lives here in North Devon and help us provide care and support to those going through the toughest of times.

Working with a specialist overseas challenge tour provider, we can help you sort out every detail of your trip. You will be in the hands of seasoned professionals looking after pre-trip logistics in the UK, then experienced guides based in your destination country helping you make the most of your experience and most importantly, helping you stay safe.

Take your first step on what could be a trip of a lifetime by contacting us for an initial chat.

If you're not convinced about how awesome this kind of experience could be, just read what Valerie had to say about her trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro in aid of North Devon Hospice...

"When you tell people that you are going to climb Kilimanjaro they say 'wow, good luck' and 'are you mad?'. Everyone knows it's going to be a hard physical challenge, but unless you have been there you can't possibly know what it does to you, that mountain...

Those who have been say 'take a notebook and a camera,' and 'try to enjoy it.' But they don't describe how summit night feels - it would probably scare you too much! It starts with excitement and some fear, and moves on to just the simple urge to keep your body going. Just keep plodding. Looking up at the line of head torches spiralling above is just too much to think about.

You just have to keep moving, till you can't go another step further. Then stop long enough to go a bit higher when you've had a rest. Too tired to think, because every step is an unbelievable effort. Just let me get there.

You don't even think about how far it is, just about the next step. Not even the one after that. And when you are so exhausted that you just want to lie down and stay there, comes the boulder climb to reach Gilman's Point. It's impossible, but somehow you do it and the feeling when you get there is just numbness. I really fell asleep on my feet.

The decision about whether to go back down or go on to Uhuru peak is not one that you are capable of making for yourself. Both trips are too much effort to contemplate. But to make it on up to Uhuru Peak is the most emotional, life changing experience. Not just the views of the glacier nor the knowledge that you are standing on top of Africa, but just I'M HERE. I'M ALIVE. I DID IT. My god, I really did it!

That's all there is. It's an indescribable feeling... and it still makes me cry even now!"
