Are you a Green-Fingered Gardener?

We get by with a little help from our friends…

Do you have a passion for gardening and growing your own produce?

Would you like to support the hospice by helping to maintain the grounds at Deer Park in Barnstaple?

Every single one of our volunteers helps us provide outstanding care and support to the community of North Devon who are impacted by a life limiting illness. We really value the time all our volunteers give to us, and you will be making a real difference to our patients and their families at their most vulnerable time.

Our volunteer gardeners contribute a day a week, working together to maintain the Hospice grounds that are so vital for the wellbeing of our patient’s, staff and visitors.

  • Maintenance: Digging, weeding, and mulching flower beds, borders, and vegetable patches.
  • Grounds Upkeep: Grass cutting, pruning shrubs and trees, and clearing pathways of debris.
  • Planting: Planting, potting, and harvesting produce in our kitchen garden to supply our Terrace Café with fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables
  • Infrastructure: Constructing garden structures, installing landscaping, and basic repairs.
  • Customer Service: Answering visitor questions and sharing gardening tips.

No formal experience is required but a passion for gardening, the capability to perform manual tasks outdoors and a love of cake would set you in good stead for this role.

You’ll be joining a friendly and welcoming team of volunteers and making a real difference to the North Devon community.
