Assault Slide 1

"We're so proud of every single person who tackled the course - you've made an incredible difference to local patients and families."

Over 600 hardy people can call themselves an ‘Unbreakable’ this weekend, as they took on a famed Commando challenge in aid of North Devon Hospice. Mission: Unbreakable pitted participants against 30 military-style obstacles, spread over a demanding 10km course of mud, hills and rivers. The sponsorship raised by those taking part will help local patients and families in the care of the hospice, who are facing a life-limiting illness.

The now famous course is designed with 24 Commando Royal Engineer Regiment, based at RMB Chivenor. Sargeant Charlotte Welby said, “It was such a privilege to have 24 Commando Regiment involved in this event again. We loved every minute, from helping with new obstacle ideas, to encouraging the Unbreakables around the course on the day. North Devon Hospice is a cause close to our hearts, because they’ve cared for so many military families locally, and this is a way of us showing our support. Everyone had so much fun, and we were so impressed with the courage on display.”

The next part of the mission is for participants to collect as much sponsorship as they can, in honour of their heroic efforts, so more care can be provided to local people when it matters most. “We’re so proud of every single person who tackled the course,” said Georgia Bedgood, Events Manager at North Devon Hospice. “Mission: Unbreakable is where courage meets compassion, because people pushed themselves to the limit, and they did it for a vital local cause. Everyone deserves comfort and dignity towards the end of life, and that’s what North Devon Hospice can provide. But it’s only possible thanks to our incredible community, so if you know someone who took part this weekend, please do sponsor them. It really will make a difference to someone’s life.”

This was the 11th edition of Mission: Unbreakable, and law firm Wollens have supported the event from the very beginning as headline sponsor. Tom Calder, who is Senior Associate Solicitor at Wollens, took part this weekend. “This was such a tough challenge, but we also had so much fun. It was great to take part as a team and encourage each other along, because we knew this was for a charity which could support any one of us. So many of the Wollens family have been touched by North Devon Hospice’s care, and we’d all want that same compassion and dignity when someone we love is facing the end of life. So we’re really proud to support the event, and we hope participants raise as much sponsorship as they can, because every pound counts.”

Georgia Bedgood added, “It genuinely takes an army of people to make Mission: Unbreakable happen, and we’re so grateful to everyone who went above and beyond this weekend. This includes 24 Commando Royal Engineers, North Molton Sports Club, our enthusiastic volunteers and the amazing local landowners who make it all possible. Huge thanks go to our sponsors, including headliners Wollens, plus C-Tec South West Ltd (CT1), Stannp.com, Pure Dental Centre, Vertu MINI Exeter, Advanced Scaffolding SW Ltd, Simpkins Edwards, Torch Farm & Equine Vets, EweMove North Devon, Smurfit Westrock Atlas, TDK-Lambda UK, DigiFunk Worksite Radio and Devonshire Freemasons. You’re all absolute heroes!”
