Big-hearted businesses are being asked to join a new fundraising initiative by North Devon Hospice, which will help their care teams reach local people in need. HolidayCottages.co.uk and C-Tec South West are the first companies to join the ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ campaign - by pledging £1,500 towards funding a hospice community nurse for a year – with more being needed to follow suit.
The £1,500 pledge to take part in the ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ campaign can either be given as a company donation, or businesses can hold their own fundraising activities throughout the year to reach the target. This can be a perfect way to involve staff and even customers in supporting a worthy local cause, as HolidayCottages.co.uk can attest.
“As long-term supporters of North Devon Hospice, our staff love to get involved in fundraising because it’s a cause close to all our hearts. There is barely a family in the area who have not been touched by the hospice’s care,” said XX, who is XX at HolidayCottages.co.uk. “So whether it’s a staff quiz night or bake sale in the office, our team get so much out of this partnership and it’s fantastic for morale. We’re delighted to now be joining the ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ campaign because it’s amazing to know exactly how our support will be making a difference. We know our sponsored nurse will be caring for real people in real homes every single day, and it’s humbling to know that the company and our staff have helped in some way.”
C-Tec South West have also signed up to Sponsor a Nurse, and are urging other local companies to follow suit. “We know that all local businesses are mindful of their local community, and this could be the very best way make a positive impact,” said Neil Deakin, who is XX at the company.
They added, “North Devon Hospice could be caring for someone in your family at any time, and it’s likely that one of their community nurses will be the first face you see. They do incredible work, which probably goes unseen, but it’s helping thousands of people every year who need that support when they’re facing a life-illness like cancer. Please join us and get involved. £1,500 is an amount almost all companies could raise throughout the year, but it will mean the world to people being looked after by these hospice nurses.”
The aim is to unite the business community in supporting the incredible work of these hospice nurses, who visit patients and families in their own homes, providing a lifeline of care to those facing an incurable illness.
Claire Paine, Business Relationship Manager at North Devon Hospice, said this was a chance for companies and their employees to really see the difference they are making. “Our specialist community nurses do an incredible job, caring for people in every town, village and hamlet right across North Devon. By joining our ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ initiative, businesses will get a very real understanding of how the company’s support is changing lives.”
Claire added, “Those taking part will get a video of thanks from a nurse, as well as regular updates throughout the year as to how this support is helping them care for local people. Plus, there will be a special reception event at the end of the year where we can come together to celebrate what has been achieved. There are a host of other benefits including promotional materials and other ways in which to engage your staff with the cause. So, get in touch today and find out more.”
North Devon Hospice is so grateful to the companies who have already come on board, and hope more will join to fund more care in people’s own homes. Claire said: “We're delighted that HolidayCottages.co.uk and C-Tec South West are the first to join this initiative. They are valuable partners over a long period of time, who really understand the vital work of our care teams. They also know the positive impact this relationship has on their staff too, because it genuinely helps people in this community. We really hope more companies will come on board to Sponsor a Nurse this year and we’d love to hear from anyone who’d like to know more.”
