Children and an adult family member can come along together, share experiences, and express themselves in ways that feel comfortable and natural. Families often form meaningful connections here, finding reassurance in being alongside others who understand. Many children also begin to realise they are not alone in what they are feeling or going through.
Here in the sanctuary of the hospice, families who are in the same situation can come together and realise they're not alone. Support is given, friendships blossom, marshmallows are toasted.
Our family events take place during the daytime, often in the school holidays at Deer Park, and are open to children and their adults. These relaxed and welcoming days bring together families who are living with illness, as well as those who have been bereaved.
Each event offers opportunities for creativity, time together, and connection with others. These shared experiences often help build lasting friendships and a sense of community.
Many of our events take place outdoors, so we encourage you to bring wellies and waterproofs—we’ll take care of everything else, including providing a packed lunch.
We also offer support for children and young people who are facing the loss of a parent or someone important to them.
This can include counselling, play therapy, group activities, and family days. These sessions provide a safe and caring space to express emotions, connect with others, and begin to build a supportive network for the future.
