On Reception

Welcome Team Volunteers

Welcoming our patients, their families and all our visitors to North Devon Hospice

The hospice prides itself on its warmth, friendliness and an all-encompassing welcome, affectionately known as the ‘hospice hug’ and our Welcome Team volunteers certainly live up to this. They welcome our patients, their families and all our visitors to North Devon Hospice in a warm and professional manner, ensuring that all enquiries are handled calmly and efficiently.

The welcome desk is the public ‘face’ of the hospice and it can be an extremely busy environment at times, particularly when events are being held, when we can welcome anywhere from 2 to 200 visitors at any one time.  And of course the telephone still needs to be answered!

The role is quite varied.  They manage, record and direct hospice post and donations, processing the sales of cards and other items available in reception as well as ensuring everyone signs in and out to comply with fire safety.  On top of that they answer and transfer telephone calls from the main switchboard to colleagues throughout the hospice and still have a smile and a warm welcome ready for any visitor.
