Calling keen hikers…are you ready for the Exmoor Extreme challenge in 2022?

This is a challenge that rivals the Yorkshire Three Peaks for difficulty and beauty, our very own Exmoor Extreme will test you to the limit while celebrating the stunning diversity of the landscape and raising money for North Devon Hospice.

Check out the BBC report for why this walk is so special, and why the funds you raise are vital to local families:

The circular route has been designed by hospice supporter and hiking enthusiast Stuart Brocklehurst, as a 52km hike with 1,400m of ascent, boasting steep climbs and tough terrain. This is a brand new challenge to test all you keen hikers out there - and what better time to set yourself a challenge for the coming year than right now?

Starting at Simonsbath Car Park, the route will showcase the stunning Exmoor landscape through wooded glades, waterfalls, a harbour and across vast coastal paths. Hikers may get the opportunity to see stags, Exmoor ponies, along with a lighthouse, views of Wales, the smallest parish church in the UK, plus the ever-changing beauty of Exmoor itself.

Fantastic photo opportunities await, especially on a clear day, because the views will rival those of any other hiking challenge in the UK (and best of all, it's right on our doorstep!).

We suggest that you only enter this extreme challenge if you have completed the appropriate training, feel confident that you will be able to complete 52km and are fit and healthy enough to be able to do so within the suggested 12-hour time frame.

You can complete the Exmoor Extreme on a date that suits you. You could even opt to overnight in Porlock to enjoy a warm (and comfortable!) night’s sleep, choosing to finish the hike the next day or even carry out the shorter, yet still challenging 38km route.

This new and exciting challenge is a vital fundraiser for North Devon Hospice. There is no fee to sign up but you can raise sponsorship for taking part. People will be eager to sponsor you because you are taking part in an extreme challenge in aid of a vital local charity. Every penny you raise will help local people right across North Devon who are facing their own challenges towards the end of their lives, or facing the loss of a loved one.
