Complementary therapies for patients

Complementary therapies

In addition to being there for your emotional wellbeing, we also offer a range of complementary therapies for our patients. We also have helpful information on the One Day at a Time section of the website. Here you will find a range of relaxation and self-care tips and techniques you can try at home.

Complementary therapies aim to treat the whole person, not just their symptoms, and can help sustain them during their illness. These therapies are known to help relieve aches and pains, as well as providing some time and space to think and relax in the comfort of a safe and secure environment.  We have complementary therapy rooms at Deer Park and The Long House, all of which offer a sanctuary away from the business of the world outside.  From our therapy rooms we can offer a range of treatments, including aromatherapy, massage and reflexology.

We also have helpful information from our Complementary Therapy lead, Mellow Moments with Mandy, on the One Day at a Time section of the website. Here you will find a range of relaxation and self-care tips and techniques you can try at home.

How to be referred
If you are already a hospice patient, please speak to one of the people involved in your care about what therapies are available, or call the Supportive Care team on 01271 347225.  One of our therapists will be able to advise you about which therapy would be best suited to your needs at that particular time. Otherwise, to access this or any of North Devon Hospice's care and support, please ask your GP to make a referral to North Devon Hospice.

Service location
We have dedicated complementary therapy rooms at our main site at Deer Park, which is on the outskirts of Barnstaple, and also at The Long House, our outreach centre in Holsworthy.

Transport
For those who would find it difficult to travel to our main site at Deer Park in Barnstaple or The Long House in Holsworthy, our team of volunteer drivers are usually available to provide transport. All our services, including transport, are provided completely free of charge.
