Ever fancied owning Castle Hill or Tunnels Beaches? Ever wanted to build a hotel on Lundy Island? Well now’s your opportunity to do just that, as a limited edition North Devon Monopoly was launched this week and is now on sale across the area.

The local version of the world’s most loved board game has been produced by North Devon Hospice, with all proceeds going back into the local charity. Hospice Chief Executive, Stephen Roberts, said it was a novel way to raise funds with a product that all North Devonians can be proud of. “First and foremost, this is a fantastic product, that showcases just how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world packed with famous sights and attractions.” he said. “But it is also a really important fundraising tool for North Devon Hospice, with all proceeds going towards the care and support we provide. It is a wonderful souvenir for locals and visitors alike, which also helps us make a real difference to the patients and families we care for. So we hope this is something fun that every family will want to own.”

Hocking’s Ice Cream are headline sponsors of the game, with images of their iconic vans and ice creams appearing on the box. Brothers Neil and Geoff Hocking, partners at Hocking’s Ice Cream, said: “We absolutely love the idea of a North Devon Monopoly, because this is an area with such a rich history and a wide array of famous landmarks. It deserves to be immortalised in a Monopoly board, which families can enjoy for many years to come. We are proud to be part of it because the Hocking’s ice cream is a key part of North Devon life for locals and visitors alike.”

As well as giving you the chance to own places like Clovelly and Ilfracombe’s statue of Verity, you could also pick up a Community Chest card that gives you a £50 reward for winning at Westward Ho! arcades or a £100 fine for speeding on the A361 Link Load!

Stephen said that it was a tough task choosing which local landmarks would make it in to the game. “We’ve been working with the makers of Monopoly for some time to produce this special North Devon edition, and the whole exercise reinforced just what an incredible area North Devon is. It was so difficult deciding which places and landmarks to feature, but we think we’ve produced a game that represents all facets of local life. We are so grateful to all the local companies who have sponsored a square or a Community Chest card, because we couldn’t have produced this game without them. It means even more funds will go to the hospice, helping us to provide even more care and support to local people who are facing the impact of cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.”

You can also purchase North Devon Monopoly online at www.northdevonmonopoly.co.uk. The game will also be on sale from Tuesday throughout the area at various local retailers, including all of North Devon Hospice’s charity shops, located in Barnstaple, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Torrington, Braunton, Holsworthy and Lynton.
