“It’s important to meet other people who are going through something similar… you have someone who understands… and anything you say, they’ll have thought themselves.”

Welcome

If you’re newly referred to the Supportive Care Team, we’ll invite you to a Welcome session. It’s a chance for you and your family to visit one of our sites (Deer Park or The Longhouse), have a look around, find out what’s available, and ask any questions you may have.

After that, you can choose from a range of groups, activities, and one-to-one sessions designed to help you make the most of each day. These might include:

Informative groups

When it can feel like lots is happening to you, our informative sessions give you space to talk things through, share what matters to you, and feel more confident about your choices.

SC Group

Choices

A six-week programme designed to assist you and your family to make informed choices. Covering commonly requested topics such as, sleep and fatigue, getting out and about, appetite and nutrition, as well as planning for future care needs, financial and funeral planning.

Talking therapies

Sometimes it really helps to talk and feel heard. We offer one-to-one sessions with counsellors, as well as groups where you can meet others in a similar situation. Many people tell us it helps them feel less alone and more understood.

Patients group

A safe, supportive space for patients to spend time with others who understand. You can share how you’re feeling, talk about what you’re experiencing, and hear from other people going through something similar.

Carers Group

This doesn’t just affect the patient, we offer a space for those holding the primary caring role for a patient, a chance for carers to spend time with others who understand the challenges. You can share how you are affected and hear from other people going through something similar.

An opportunity to enjoy some social time with others over a relaxed meal in our café. Come on your own or with a companion.  Lunch is on us and open to all patients and cares known to the Hospice.

Creative groups

A relaxed, welcoming space to make and create alongside other patients and carers. You might make a gift, capture a memory, or simply express how you’re feeling today. It’s not about what you produce – it’s about taking time to be in the making.
